BTD Review: “Wanderer” by Greg Walsh’s New Ghosts

Greg Walsh New Ghosts Wanderer
Greg Walsh sets a peaceful, coastal mood right from the start of “Wanderer” with ocean breeze ambience and seagulls drifting in the background. It instantly feels tranquil, like you’re standing near the shoreline before the day really begins. Then an acoustic guitar comes in and carries the song forward while those ocean sounds continue underneath, keeping everything grounded in that calm, seaside atmosphere.
Lyrically, this track plays out more like a story than a standard verse-chorus pop structure. Greg opens with the simple truth of “waves come and they go,” and then shifts into the heart of the song: the idea of the Wanderer, someone who’s lived, seen things, and keeps moving. Lines like “the Wanderer has stories… no time for worries” give the whole song a reflective, lived-in feeling.
Midway through, the ocean and seagulls swell back up, almost like the tide returning, and it leads into a gentle acoustic bridge that keeps the song flowing naturally. That’s one of the things I like most here — it doesn’t feel forced. It just moves like water, which fits the theme perfectly.
As the song builds, there’s a really nice musical lift: a mellotron comes in during the next chorus with a soft drum beat, a touch of bass, and even a little tambourine that adds sparkle without breaking the calm vibe. It’s subtle, but it makes the later section feel fuller and more emotional.
One of the standout moments lyrically is when Greg asks, “must I keep wandering till I find something that I can call mine.” It hits that universal feeling of searching, for home, for meaning, for peace, while still staying gentle and grounded. And then there’s that line that feels almost heartbreaking in how honest it is: “I will tell my stories though I have nothing to say.” It’s quiet, but it lingers.
The song closes the same way it began, returning to the ocean and seagulls, like the Wanderer fades back into the shoreline, still moving, still thinking, still carrying those stories.
“Wanderer” is a calm, coastal, story-driven track with beautiful acoustic work, thoughtful lyrics, and a subtle instrumental build that makes it feel like a reflective walk by the water.
