BTD EP Review: “The Engagement” by Louie XO

Turn up the bass for this one because Louie XO brings it all throughout the EP The Engagement. Releasing on his birthday, July 15, 2026, this project feels very personal right from the start. You can tell this is not just a bunch of random songs thrown together. There is emotion, passion, romance, and real-life connection flowing through the entire EP.

Coming out of Columbus, Ohio, Louie XO blends hip hop, rap, soul, and smooth melodic vibes together in a way that feels unusually unique. Everything glides nicely from song to song. The grooves stay steady, the production sounds polished, and the effects throughout the EP are done really well, helping create this late-night dreamy atmosphere.

One thing that really stands out is Louie XO’s vocal style. His delivery stays smooth even when the lyrics get bold or explicit. Nothing feels forced or overly aggressive. Even the curse words somehow flow naturally with the music and rhythm of the songs. That actually says a lot about his control as an artist and how well everything is produced together.

Track 2, “Man Up,” feels like one of the emotional centerpieces of the EP. Underneath the smooth beat and heavy bass is really a song about growth, loyalty, and becoming a better version of yourself because of somebody you love. The hook:

“She made me man it up, baby ima big fan of ya”

sticks in your head instantly, but it also feels genuine. There is confidence in the song, but there is also vulnerability underneath it.

“Bahama Mama” keeps the romantic energy flowing with a laid-back groove that feels warm and intimate. Then tracks like “Bad Gal” and “Louanese” continue building that relationship theme throughout the EP. “Louanese” especially stands out with its catchy hook:

“You speak Louanese, I didn’t know baby…”

It almost feels like Louie XO created his own language between him and Celena, which honestly matches the emotional direction of the entire project.

By the time the EP reaches its closing moments, the listener realizes this project is about much more than smooth grooves and bass-heavy production. Underneath it all is a very personal story about love, loyalty, growth, attraction, and emotional connection.

The production across the EP sounds strong all the way through. The bass pounds, the vocals ride smoothly in the mix, and everything feels cohesive without sounding overdone. Nothing fights for space. Everything works together naturally.

This is one of those projects that feels best played at night with the volume turned up and the bass allowed to breathe.

Louie XO did not just make an EP here. He captured a moment in his life and wrapped it into music.

If you’ve been following Louie XO with us here at BTD Radio, you already know we previously reviewed “Ready or Not” and “Luv Marijuana,” where we talked about his smooth vocal placement, bass-heavy production, and atmospheric style. This new EP feels even more personal and emotionally connected, while still keeping that same groove and confidence we’ve come to expect from Louie XO.
