Welcome to the studio!

Hello Richard! Welcome to the studio.  I have been reading all about you and I can’t wait to get started. Before we begin, could you tell our listeners where you are from?

Not only have I been reading all about you, I have been listening to your fabulous music as well. If you don’t mind, I would love to talk about your single, “A Better Place.” Wow, that is a heart wrenching song. Marvelously written. Could you tell us about this song?

RL: The song was written by Billy Yates and Trent Tomlinson, out of the hundreds of songs submitted to me for the album project this one blew me away, give me those goose bumps.  I knew I had to have it on the album

Your song “A Better Place” is one of many great songs from your album with the same title. How long did it take to put this whole album together? Could you share some of your insights?

RL: It took a month for me a find all the songs I wanted on it, I wanted it to have great traditional country flavor but be very diverse….it was about another month to get in the studio and get all the production together.

Billy Yates produced the album and did a fantastic job putting it all together.  We had some of the best musicians and singers in the business on the album.  And got to put a couple of great duets with both Billy and David Frizzell with Stacy Houston on the album which was a thrill for me.  Another feature on the album is the opening to the song Daddys Radio, those are snippets of my Dad singing from a cassette he recorded way back several years ago.  The album has been out about 18 months and we have received nothing but extraordinary complimentary reviews of the production.  I am really proud of this album.

How has your music career changed your life?

RL: My music has connected me with so many people including my wife.  It is so nice to have so many people appreciate the music we play. 

Could you tell our listeners all about you and The Love Tattoo Foundation?

RL: The Love Tattoo Foundation is a result of our appreciation and admiration for our veterans and folks in the military.  The song Love Tattoo is a dedication to all the sacrifices they have made for us and our country.  The Foundation was created as a way to give back to those folks and show our appreciation for their sacrifices

I read that you are a farmer and you build barns. How cool is that! It seems that we have moved away from the heart of what has made America. There are so few farms around today and barns are a rarity. Do these concerns spill into your music?

RL: Yes these concerns spill into my music, I just cowrote a song  called “Worth Saving” about our antique barns and how we need to preserve them.  This was inspired by a lady in Michigan who wants to create a preservation society for old barns.

Do you find having these trades help you relate to Country music? 

RL: We live the life I sing about, we are country, live in the country on a farm, work hard to maintain our farm and enjoy this lifestyle, the rural way of life with great American values.

Aside from your music, I would love to know about how you got started building barns.

RL: I grew up on a farm that had older buildings that needed constant repairs and maintenance, I was the oldest of 6 kids and my Dad taught me out of necessity how to fix and repair the barns and other structures.  From there I started working in the construction field which has always been my way of supporting my family

When you’re not busy with all the things I mention above, can you tell us what Richard likes to do to relax.

RL: I bale hay for relaxation!  Love to work the farm…and occasionally I get to throw a line in the water and catch a fish or two.  Or my favorite hobby is metal detecting for old coins in and around these old farms I work around.

How did you get started in music? What sparked your interests? Did you have influences, coaches, family to inspire you?

RL: I starting singing from the time I remember back to being a young fella with my Dad Woody Lynch who was a very talented well known country singer in our area.  I was on stage at the age of 8 with him, my first song was the Buck Owens favorite I Got A Tiger By The Tail!  I have been inspired by my Dad from the beginning and I always wanted to do what he did.  I have played and opened for some great singers such as Keith Whitley, Shenandoah and John Conlee to name a few who have inspired me also to be the best I can be.

Could you tell us about any tours you have coming up?

RL: Starting in January through February we will play about 30 dates in south Texas, it is our 4th year to play the Rio Grande Valley and the folks there thoroughly enjoy the country music and dancing to all the old time favorites.  And  we will come back in March to start playing all the festivals and events that fill the spring and summer months in our area.
