How to Add Metadata to a Song Using Windows Properties
When submitting your music to BTD Radio, it’s important to include complete and accurate metadata in your song files. Adding metadata is simple, and it helps your music appear correctly on radio systems, playlists, and music libraries. Your future self—and your listeners—will thank you for taking the time to do it.
Below is a clear, step-by-step guide on how to add metadata to a song using Windows Properties.
1. Locate the Song File
First, find the MP3 or audio file you want to edit on your Windows computer. You can do this through File Explorer by navigating to the folder where your music is stored.

2. Right-Click on the File
Next, right-click on the song file to open its context menu. This menu gives you access to file options, including the ability to view and edit properties.

3. Select “Properties”
From the context menu, click Properties at the bottom. This opens a new window where you can access detailed information about the file.

4. Open the “Details” Tab
Inside the Properties window, go to the Details tab. This is where Windows displays all metadata fields, such as:
-
Title
-
Artist
-
Album
-
Genre
-
Year
-
Track Number
-
Composer
This tab is the main place where you’ll enter or adjust your song’s information.

5. Edit the Metadata Fields
Click directly into any field you want to update. Then type in your correct information, whether it’s your artist name, track title, or album name.
If your song includes album artwork, you can add or change it here as well.
Adding accurate metadata ensures your track displays correctly on radio automation systems and music players.
6. Save Your Changes
Once you’re happy with the metadata you added, click Apply and then OK. This saves the new information directly into the file.
7. Close the Window
That’s it! Close the Properties window, and your metadata is now embedded into your song file.
The edited metadata will be saved with the song file, making it easier to organize and find your music in your Windows library. Keep in mind that the exact steps and options in the Properties window may vary slightly depending on your Windows version, but the general process remains similar.
Why Metadata Matters
Accurate metadata makes your music easier to organize and helps radio stations, including BTD Radio, identify and catalog your song correctly. Although menu layouts may vary slightly between Windows versions, the general process remains the same.
Adding metadata is quick, simple, and an essential part of preparing your music for radio submission.
